Often, the sharps bin is the most useful deposable receptacle nearby when small items need to be disposed. Needle sleeves, vial caps, and other recently sterile uncontaminated pieces of plastic are disposed in this bin. We want to increase awareness amongst Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs) and anaesthetists so they place these items in the recycling bin not the sharps bin.
